Adjectives to Start Out 2012!
There are so many amazing adjectives we experience not only as entrepreneurs but also has human beings. 2011 allowed me to not only feel many of them, but my most important one was to feel personal passion for the things I have and do in my life. So this first post for 2012 is going to be on PASSION.
Wikipedia says Passion is (from the Ancient Greek verb πάσχω (paskho) meaning to suffer) is a term applied to a very strong feeling about a person or thing. Passion is an intense emotion compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something.
The term is also often applied to a lively or eager interest in or admiration for a proposal, cause, or activity or love – to a feeling of unusual excitement, enthusiasm or compelling emotion, a positive affinity or love, towards a subject, idea, person, or object.
So if you take that definition and apply it to your life or business and how you show up every day… can you say you are PASSIONATE? Well as entrepreneurs we all probably started this way. A burning love and desire for what we created. Our ideas to build something we mentally saw and felt at our core was what we were meant to do. But somewhere along the journey we hit those other adjectives like fear, self doubt and insecurity and they play havoc on our passion.
Finding ways in our lives to spend more time in the passion zone versus those others can be a great challenge, but let me tell you its worth it to find a way! Over the years I have been very fortunate to have a burning desire for knowledge and human nature, which I see as one of my most special gifts and I love to ask people that I meet to share with me what they do. As they start to describe their business or their life you can see and feel their passion. They light up, their energy changes, they become excited like a child and I have to say its one of the most amazing things to experience from another. Can’t you remember chatting with a great friend and just get excited about what they were working on… or an event they just went to… this is passion and let me tell you, we could all use a bit more of it in our lives.
So what if you don’t know what your passionate about? Well a couple of years ago I was watching a keynote speech on You Tube of Gary Vaynerchuk’s, a guy who oozes passion at his core and someone in the audience said they weren’t really sure what they were truly passionate about. They had a good job, a nice family, but nothing stood out that they could say, “I am so passionate about…x”. So Gary answered by saying it was okay to not know right off what he was passionate about but, he followed that up with a few more questions. He asked, “what are you spending your time on when your not working or with your family? What do you do when you are not taking care of responsibilities? How do you spend your free time? That my friend is what your passion is. Remember you can spend your free time on realistically anything you want and you choose to spend it on those things.” He followed those comments up with suggesting to spend some further time exploring what that personally looked like for each of them.
This was a very profound statement for me. I am very passionate about a lot of things, but nothing that was saying this is where you are headed, this is what you are about. So I sat and thought about it for a few minutes. What do I do when I am not working or spending time with my children? I don’t have a big social life, so what I do spend a tremendous amount of time on is learning. When my day is over, I read books, catch up on technology online, study different products that internet marketers have created. I am a student of life and I am so very passionate about it. I have become a resource to my friends and family for various things. One of my best girlfriends said to me one time.. Audra is there anything you don’t know at least something about? And I have to say, its not about knowing a lot for me its about experiencing the amazing things that life has to share. I am just fortunate that after I learn it I can use it to pay it forward when its needed to be known in someone else life. So if you are having trouble finding your passion.. reach out and lets chat. I know together we can find it! Lets make 2012 full of passion!
Note to self: If your not living your passion you are doing yourself and others a disservice. Get it together and share your passion, our universe needs it!
